The newest addition to the Best Me I Can Be! series offers help for children who say inappropriate things.

RJs mouth is getting him into a lot of trouble. A rude comment at school earned him a detention. An insensitive remark at home earned him a scolding and made his sister cry. RJ doesnt realise his words are wrong. He thinks hes just offering feedback.

Its time RJ starts using a social filter when he speaks. With help from his parents, he learns he doesnt have to verbalise every thought that pops into his head. In fact, sometimes the less said the better!

Review

I have purchased many of Julia Cooks books. They are very good for working with Elementary school children. This book in particular, I cant believe you said that! is a wonderful resource for working with students on what to say and what to think. Boys Town Press seems to have the best prices as well. M Wawrzynski

This book is so great an oldie but a goodie for talking about social filters and thinking before we speak. Im wrapping up using it with my fourth graders tomorrow and reflecting on a change Ive made when reading it (letting in some laughs!). Shared a little more in my instastories (and will share more about the lesson tomorrow). Sara, @theresponsivecounselor

RJ is such a relatable character nearly everyone has experienced a momentary lapse of their social filter! This book describes the connection between thoughts and appropriate social responses, using contexts that children have likely encountered themselves. A perfect resource to introduce children to the importance of social mindfulness. Jill D. Kuzma, M.A., CCC-SLP
