| Double Club English is a football-based literacy programme, aimed at reluctantlearners, (particularly boys). The |
| series is based on the teaching principles used in the award-winning Double Club education programme created by |
| Arsenal Football Club. |

| The Pupil Books tell the story of Shelby Town FC delivering soap opera style story lines through a rich range of |
| text types and genres. Each book provides 30 structured units, with the story being featured on the left-hand page |
| and follow-up spelling, grammar, punctuation and comprehension questions on the right. |

| Using Double Club English in class: |
| 1. Read the text with the group |
| 2. Use theTeam Talk section to discuss the text |
| 3. Use theSkills Practise sections to practice the focus literacy skills of the unit |
| 4. Use theGame On section to review comprehension of the text as a whole |
| 5. Use thePost Match photocopymaster (in the accompanying Teachers Book) to apply the skills taught in a |
| writing context. |
