Purpose:

The Search for Sounds posters have been developed to demonstrate how words work

• words are made up of sounds
• the same sound is in many different words
• the same sound can be heard in different positions inwords.

Understanding that a word is made up of sounds is critical for understanding the Alphabetic Principle that when we write words down, we are really writing down the sounds that they are made up of.
